Officials of the Taliban administration in Nangarhar Province have announced that a man in the Surkh Rod district of the province killed his wife and daughter and also injured his son.
Sayed Tayeb Hamad said that the incident occurred on Sunday, May 31, in the Sheikh Misri area of Surkh Rod district.
According to him, the incident took place following a family dispute, during which the suspect allegedly attacked members of his own family.
Hamad added that the man has been arrested on charges of murdering his wife and daughter and injuring his son, and that investigations into the case are ongoing.
So far, no details have been released regarding the identities of the victims or the detained individual. The motive and underlying causes of the incident have also not yet been officially determined.
The incident comes amid continued concerns expressed by human rights organizations and United Nations documentation bodies about the persistence of domestic violence in Afghanistan.
Several of these organizations have identified factors such as poverty, unemployment, economic hardship, increasing psychological stress, the reduction of support services, and limited access to justice and legal protection mechanisms as contributing to the rise in domestic violence.
Social experts also emphasize that reduced access to social support and mental health services can increase the likelihood of family tensions and the tragic consequences that may result from them.
