Summary

Health officials in Uruzgan say that a positive case of polio has been recorded in Tirin Kot, the provincial capital.

A source at the Uruzgan Public Health Directorate confirmed today (Thursday, 22 Asad) that a two-year-old girl has been diagnosed with polio.

The source said the girl is a resident of the Sarkhum area of Tirin Kot.

According to the source, the child sought medical attention several months ago after developing symptoms of polio, and her test results were only recently confirmed as positive.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said last week that Afghanistan has recorded 15 confirmed polio cases so far this year, giving it the highest number of newly reported polio cases in the world.
