Mursal Ataei, a young teacher from Badakhshan, has succeeded in producing a complete handwritten copy of the Holy Quran after two years of continuous effort; an endeavor she says was undertaken to preserve Islamic art and provide a spiritual service.
In an interview with Badakhshan Journal, Mursal Ataei stated that her main motivation for this work was her love for the Quran and her interest in preserving Islamic art. She had always wished to create a work that would have both devotional significance and artistic value.
According to her, the process of handwriting the Quran took about two years. Most nights, after completing her teaching duties, she would spend two to three hours daily writing the verses.
The young teacher from Badakhshan added that to avoid any mistakes, she reviewed each page multiple times and compared her writing with the original text of the Quran. She also said she intends to submit this handwritten copy to the Department of Hajj and Religious Endowments for technical evaluation and registration.
Mursal Ataei explained that although she has never received formal training in calligraphy, she relied on her personal handwriting and religious studies to complete this work.
She was among the top students at Aisha Siddiqa School and has also received training in Islamic sciences and Tajweed (Quranic pronunciation).
The young teacher described writing thousands of verses without errors as a great responsibility both technically and spiritually, adding that while copying the Quran, she felt closer to Allah and experienced spiritual peace.
She said that for this work, she used F4-sized paper and various colored pens, with the text of the verses written in black, diacritical marks in red, and the chapter designs in red, black, and blue.
