Abdul Khan, a 28-year-old Afghan asylum seeker in the UK, has been sentenced by Nottingham Crown Court to nine years and six months in prison for raping a 13-year-old girl and committing multiple acts of child sexual abuse.
On Monday, Nottingham Crown Court found Khan guilty of two counts of rape and several counts of child sexual abuse. Under the court's ruling, he will be deported from the UK to Afghanistan after serving two-thirds of his sentence.
According to Sky News, Khan entered the UK in 2015 via human trafficking networks. He had previously been sentenced to 23 months in prison for engaging in sexual activity with another child.
According to documents presented in court, Khan posed as a 14-year-old boy on Snapchat to gain the 13-year-old girl's trust before meeting her in a wooded area in Clifton, Nottingham.
The court stated that Khan subsequently raped the girl on two separate occasions following the meeting. Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that forensic evidence linked Khan to the assault.
Detective Officer Madeleine Johnson of Nottinghamshire Police described Khan as an "opportunistic offender and predator," stating that he poses a clear danger to teenage girls and young women.
The court also ordered that Khan be placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, meaning he will remain subject to legal registration requirements even following his release.
