Amid intense fighting between the Taliban and armed opposition forces in Zebak district of Badakhshan province, Dawood Naji, head of the Political Committee of the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), has announced that the group’s armed campaign against the Taliban has entered a new phase.
In a post published on X on Friday, Naji said that the Freedom Front’s operation in Zebak district had begun. He described the clashes as a “decisive battle for liberation” and expressed confidence that the final outcome would be the freedom and victory of the Afghan people.
Earlier, local sources told the media that anti-Taliban forces had launched attacks on several Taliban checkpoints in the Topkhana area of Zebak district.
According to the reports, the fighting began on Thursday, and sources confirmed on Friday that the clashes were still ongoing.
Taliban officials have also confirmed that an attack took place. They claimed that at least five anti-Taliban fighters were killed during the clashes.
Naji said that further details about the fighting between the Afghanistan Freedom Front and the Taliban in Badakhshan would be released soon in an official statement.
Meanwhile, some sources have claimed that three local Taliban commanders were also killed in the fighting. However, no independent confirmation of the casualty figures on either side has yet been made available.
