Amrullah Saleh, former Vice President of Afghanistan, wrote in a post on his X page on Saturday, July 25, that the Taliban will never become a state and that the group's rule will ultimately collapse. He also claimed that the defeat of the Taliban would turn into a "national celebration" for the people of Afghanistan.
Saleh further emphasized that national unity under the banner and structure of the Taliban is not only impossible, but according to him, is eroding and collapsing more with each passing day. At the same time, he added that Afghanistan will endure and will never be partitioned.
The former Afghan Vice President also stated that the struggle against the Taliban will continue across both political and military fronts, and that through horizontal coalitions among like-minded groups, the scope of opposition activities against the group will expand across various regions of Afghanistan.
Without naming a specific country, he claimed that in the event of defeat, the Taliban unlike in the past would enjoy no foreign backing and would fragment along its ethnic structure.
Saleh also noted that the mechanism for power-sharing in Afghanistan's future must be determined and resolved through a referendum, a Loya Jirga, and the drafting of a constitution.
These statements come amid an increase in attacks by armed opposition groups in Badakhshan province, where clashes continue across several districts. Forces from the Afghanistan Freedom Front have been engaged in direct combat with the Taliban in the Zibak district for the past three days.
Additionally, the newly formed group "Sepahian-e Mihan" (Soldiers of the Homeland) previously claimed to have taken control of the Yaftal-e Payan district for several hours. Following these developments, the Taliban dispatched reinforcements to Badakhshan and Takhar provinces, and Fasihuddin Fitrat, the group's chief of army staff, traveled to the front lines in Zibak district.
