A member of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan party in Balochistan province, Pakistan, has been killed in an armed attack. According to reports, Maulvi Abdul Khaliq, a member of Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman’s party, was shot by unidentified gunmen in the Khanozai area near Quetta and lost his life.
Local sources said that the attackers fled the scene after the incident, and so far no further details about how the attack occurred have been released.
No armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, but security forces have launched an investigation into the incident.
This comes at a time when targeted attacks against religious and political figures have recently increased in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
