Bashir Hatef, a veteran Afghan journalist, has been released from Bagram Prison after serving one year in detention. His release was welcomed by the Afghanistan Journalists Center (AFJC).
The Afghanistan Journalists Center stated that during the process of Bashir Hatef's arrest and trial, his fundamental rights including the right to a fair and just trial were violated. The organization emphasized the need to uphold legal principles in handling cases involving journalists.
According to the center, Bashir Hatef should not have been deprived of his liberty in the first place, and his detention was incompatible with legal standards and fair trial requirements. The AFJC called for adherence to fundamental rights at all stages of judicial proceedings.
Bashir Hatef is considered one of Afghanistan's veteran journalists. His arrest last year sparked reactions and deep concerns among media freedom organizations and free speech advocates.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center also urged responsible authorities to respect the rights of journalists and media workers, ensuring an environment for free, professional, and secure media operations in the country.
