In Argo district of Badakhshan province, intense clashes have erupted between the Taliban and local residents over the eradication of opium poppy fields. Reports indicate that the protests in the area continue and the situation is becoming increasingly tense day by day.
According to local sources, three people, including a child, have been killed and several others injured due to Taliban gunfire targeting the protesters. Meanwhile, the Taliban’s security command in Badakhshan confirmed in a statement the killing of two people.
Videos circulated on social media show dozens of angry residents attacking some Taliban centers, and violence in the area remains uncontrolled. Some protesters have said that previously, the Taliban allowed the cultivation of poppy fields for financial gain, but they are now preventing it.
Sources further state that due to the spread of the protests, the Taliban have sent additional fighters from other provinces to Badakhshan to bring the situation under control.
