In Helmand, construction work related to the Minister of Communications and Technology was halted on land seized by local tribal elders.
According to local sources in the center of Helmand province, Lashkar Gah, the Council of Ulema has demanded the suspension of the construction project associated with the Minister of Communications and Technology, Mullah Abdulhad Fazli; a project that, according to the people, was being carried out on green and government land.
Residents of the area said that, Saturday, 16th of May , the Council of Ulema sent an official letter to the governor of Helmand and the security commander, requesting that all illegal construction activities in the area of the city’s third district be stopped. The council’s letter emphasized that this area should be organized and developed according to the municipality’s official map.
Local people said that this morning, individuals affiliated with the minister again tried to continue building a wall in the area, but after the intervention of some council members, the work was stopped.
According to residents, although the new construction activities have been halted, partially built walls and construction equipment remain in the area. Newly released videos also show that the work has stopped and the area appears calm.
Residents of Lashkar Gah’s third district had previously said that under the order of Mullah Abdulhad Fazli, work in the area had continued day and night to enclose the large piece of land with walls.
According to the people, the seized land covers about seven jeribs, and given the land prices in the area, its value reaches hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The Taliban have not officially commented on these claims so far, but locals say that construction activities in this area have been halted several times before and then resumed.
Residents of the area demand that the green land be preserved according to the municipality’s original map and that public interests be protected.
