Summary

A number of students at Paktika University say that the lack of qualified professors and the weak educational process at the university have caused many faculties and academic departments to face serious challenges.

According to the students, if the university’s situation is not addressed soon, the remaining students may also abandon their studies, and the institution’s academic standards could deteriorate even further.

According to available information, the Physics Department of the Faculty of Education is facing a severe shortage of students. Only seven students are enrolled in the first year, there is no second-year class, and the third and fourth years each have only six students.

The Mathematics Department is in a similar situation. It is reported that only one student was admitted to the department through this year’s national entrance examination (Kankor), but that student was later transferred to the Physics Department. Currently, only seven students remain in the second year of the Mathematics Department.

Meanwhile, the Chemistry Department is also facing difficulties due to a lack of students. The first- and second-year classes are inactive, and only eight students are registered on the attendance list for the third year.

Some students attribute the decline in interest in modern education among young people to several factors, including the decreasing number of participants in the Kankor examination, limited employment opportunities, the shortage of qualified professors, and the Taliban’s exclusive support for religious madrasas.

They believe that if higher education is not given the necessary attention, Afghanistan’s university system will face even greater challenges and further decline.
