The Afghanistan Freedom Front has announced that its forces targeted a gathering of members of the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice on Friday night, June 12, at the entrance of the department in the city of Herat.
In a message published on the social media platform X, the group stated that the operation took place at around 10:00 p.m. local time, resulting in the death of three members of the Taliban’s morality police and the injury of two others.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front has previously identified members and facilities of the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice as targets, and said the latest attack was carried out in continuation of that approach.
Dawood Naji, the political head of the Afghanistan Freedom Front, told Afghanistan International regarding the operation: “We said it, and we did it.”
The Freedom Front also released a video purportedly showing the attack, stating that it was carried out in response to what it described as the harassment of women and the suppression of public protests by the Taliban in Herat.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Freedom Front has urged residents of Herat to stay away from Taliban military vehicles and gathering points in order to ensure their safety.
Taliban officials have not yet issued any response to these claims.
