The anti-Taliban Freedom Front has claimed that its forces repelled Taliban attacks in the Zebak district of Badakhshan province and, in subsequent counteroffensive operations, killed five Taliban fighters and wounded four others.
According to a statement issued by the group, the clash began at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Monday (July 27), when Taliban forces launched an attack on its positions. The statement said Freedom Front fighters carried out counteroffensive operations from two directions, forcing the Taliban to retreat.
The Freedom Front also stated that its forces suffered no casualties during the operation.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said during a briefing on the achievements of six government ministries that Taliban security forces remain capable and had eliminated those responsible for recent security incidents within 24 hours. Although he did not mention any specific incident or location, his remarks are widely seen as referring to the recent events in Badakhshan.
Mujahid stated: “Such incidents occur even in many advanced countries. Our forces are committed and take the necessary measures to prevent security threats whenever required. Some security challenges emerged recently, but they were contained within 24 hours, and those responsible were eliminated.”
So far, the Taliban have not issued a separate response to the Freedom Front’s claims, and the assertions made by both sides have not been independently verified.
