Summary

More than two months have passed since Donald Trump announced that an agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran was on the verge of being finalized. Despite these statements, no agreement has yet been reached between the two sides.

On 18 Hamal, Trump posted a message on social media stating that the two sides were “very close to a deal” and that only two weeks were needed for its finalization and implementation. At the time, he expressed hope that this long-standing dispute would soon be resolved.

However, a CNN report indicates that over the past two months, the U.S. president has repeatedly claimed that a deal with Tehran is close. According to the report, if his statements prior to the announcement of the ceasefire are also taken into account, Trump has made at least 37 such remarks in speeches, interviews, media calls, and social media posts, referring to the imminent conclusion of a deal or Iran’s strong willingness to reach one.

CNN notes that despite these repeated claims, there is no indication that the current situation has moved any closer to a final agreement compared to when these statements were first made. Nevertheless, Trump continues to maintain his position.

This trend began on 3 Hamal 1405, when Trump told reporters aboard the presidential aircraft that significant progress had been made on key negotiation issues and that the two sides were almost in agreement on all matters.

In the following days, he repeatedly emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran was strongly seeking a deal. On 4 Hamal, Trump said Tehran was looking for an agreement, and a day later he claimed that Iranian officials were insisting on reaching one.

On 9 Hamal, the U.S. president, in response to a question about the possibility of a deal the following week, said he expected such an agreement to be reached. From that point onward, his remarks on the negotiations became more assertive.

On 17 Hamal, Trump stated that the two sides had been very close to a deal before certain obstacles arose. A day later, he announced a ceasefire and said that the details of the agreement would be finalized within two weeks.

In the following weeks, he continued to speak about the proximity of a deal. On 26 Hamal, in an interview with Fox Business, Trump stated that the negotiation process was nearly complete and that the two sides were very close to an agreement.

In subsequent days, the U.S. president repeatedly stated that talks were progressing well, that no major disagreements remained, and that a final agreement would soon be reached. However, none of these predictions materialized.

During the months of Saur and Jawza as well, Trump continued to maintain this stance. He stated that the agreement was largely prepared and only final details remained. He also claimed that Iran had shown extensive willingness to reach a deal.

In his latest remarks, Trump said on Sunday in an interview with Axios that the two sides were once again very close to a final agreement, but warned that ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel could affect the negotiation process.

He also reiterated on Monday, 18 Jawza, at a campaign rally in support of Lindsey Graham, that he expected a “total victory” within the next two weeks, adding that negotiations were ongoing and that Iran was seeking a comprehensive agreement.
