Summary

Former Afghan journalist and current model Gulalai Karimi has criticized the current state of society, ideological rigidity, and the restrictions imposed on citizens’ fundamental rights.

In recent remarks, Karimi stated: “I cannot stand the kind of advice in which dishonorable people preach about honor.”

According to her, these comments are directed at those who lack the courage to demand their own fundamental and individual rights, yet seek to lecture others about honor and bravery.

She further argued that true dishonor lies in being unable to defend the rights of one’s sister and family, and in allowing one’s right to express opinions and defend oneself to be taken away.

Karimi said that in an environment where people do not even have full control over their personal appearance and private lives, and are compelled to submit to a culture of coercion and domination, remaining silent in the face of violations of fundamental rights constitutes the greatest problem.

In her view, a society in which educated and skilled individuals despite holding bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees remain unemployed and are denied a voice in demanding their rights reflects a profound social crisis.

Karimi emphasized that, instead of offering hollow advice, society should respect human reason, expertise, and fundamental rights.
