The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has warned that any restrictions on the freedom of movement and navigation of ships in the Strait of Hormuz could have deep and widespread effects on global trade and energy flows.
He emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important maritime routes in the world, and a significant portion of global oil transportation takes place through this route. According to him, any crisis, security threat, or sanctions in this region would not only increase oil prices but also jeopardize the stability of the global market.
Guterres added that if the situation is not controlled, it could lead to a slowdown in the global economy, recession, and instability, with effects being felt in both developed and developing countries. He called on all relevant parties to exercise patience and ensure the freedom of maritime navigation within the framework of international law, to prevent a major economic and political crisis.
