Member of the European Parliament, Hannah Neumann, has warned that the forced return of Afghan refugees is not only a humanitarian failure but will also have far-reaching strategic consequences.
She stated that if European countries return young Afghans to an environment dominated by poverty, unemployment, and despair, it is highly likely that these young people will turn to networks and religious schools under Taliban influence to meet their basic life needs.
Neumann emphasized that refugee policies should not be determined solely based on short-term political pressures, but decisions should be made with the long-term stability and security of the region in mind. She added that supporting and integrating Afghan refugees is not only a humanitarian responsibility but also important for Europe’s security interests.
