Herat: One of the Country’s Leading Fruit-Producing Regions with More Than 28,000 Hectares of Orchards
Officials from the Department of Agriculture in Herat say that this year’s fresh fruit harvest has increased compared to previous years. With more than 28,000 hectares of fruit orchards, Herat is regarded as one of the country’s leading horticultural production hubs.
According to available statistics, thousands of tons of fresh fruits including grapes, pomegranates, apricots, peaches, apples, and nectarines are harvested annually from the province’s orchards and supplied to both domestic and international markets. Favorable climatic conditions and the continued expansion of orchard cultivation have been identified as key factors driving the growth in fruit production across Herat.
Alongside the increase in production, efforts are continuing to expand export markets, improve transit facilities, and strengthen infrastructure supporting the agricultural sector. Officials hope these initiatives will provide better access for Herat’s horticultural products to regional and international markets.
Agricultural experts believe that the rise in fresh fruit production can play a significant role in strengthening the agricultural sector, creating employment opportunities, and increasing the income of orchard owners and farmers. They also emphasize that expanding exports of Herat’s horticultural products could further enhance the province’s contribution to the national economy.
