The families of Syed Qasim Hashemi, a journalist and filmmaker, and Hamid Ehsas, an Afghan filmmaker, have announced that the two men have been missing in Islamabad, Pakistan, since the evening of July 4, 2026. More than a month later, there is still no clear or reliable information about their whereabouts or condition.
According to information provided by the families and relatives, contact with Syed Qasim Hashemi and Hamid Ehsas was lost after 8 p.m. on July 4. Repeated attempts by their families to contact them have been unsuccessful, and no reliable information about their whereabouts or condition has been obtained since then.
The families say that after contact was lost, they used the vehicle’s tracking system to trace its route and location. The vehicle being used by Syed Qasim Hashemi and Hamid Ehsas was found in Islamabad’s D-12 area; however, according to the families, neither man was found inside or near the vehicle.
Following the incident, the families and relatives approached the police to pursue the matter and requested that the case be formally registered and an investigation launched. They say that despite repeated follow-ups, the families have so far not received clear or reliable information about the fate of the two men.
The families have also stated that, with the assistance of a lawyer, they have initiated legal proceedings and are pursuing the case through the courts. According to information provided by the families, the matter has been referred through judicial channels to the relevant authorities for follow-up. Nevertheless, after more than a month, the families are still awaiting specific information about the whereabouts and fate of Syed Qasim Hashemi and Hamid Ehsas.
According to the families, the simultaneous disappearance of the two men, the sudden loss of contact, the discovery of their vehicle in the D-12 area, and the continued lack of information for more than a month have heightened concerns about their safety and well-being.
