Human Rights Watch has reported that Saudi authorities executed five Ethiopian migrants this week on drug-related charges. According to the organization, dozens of others facing similar charges remain at risk of execution.
In a post on X on Thursday, July 30, Human Rights Watch said the executions were carried out without due process and that at least 79 other individuals accused of similar offenses are at imminent risk of execution.
The organization also stated that, according to the European Saudi Organization for Human Rights, at least 116 people had been executed in Saudi Arabia as of July 27, 2026. It added that at least 17 Ethiopian nationals have been executed in the Kingdom on drug-related charges since the beginning of this year.
Human Rights Watch reiterated its opposition to the use of the death penalty and once again called for its abolition. Saudi authorities have not yet issued an official response to the report.
