Summary

Media affiliated with the Taliban have reported the inauguration of a new mosque in the Injil district of Herat province. The project, located in the district’s Nawin village, was completed over a period of nearly two years, according to officials.

According to the Bakhtar News Agency, which published the report on Saturday, June 16 (16 Jozā), the mosque has been constructed on a land area of approximately 4,500 square meters and has a capacity to accommodate around 2,000 worshippers.

The Taliban have stated that the construction cost of the project amounted to 25 million Afghanis, although no details have been provided regarding the source of funding.

The opening of this mosque comes at a time when Afghanistan continues to face significant economic challenges, including poverty, unemployment, and a decline in livelihood opportunities. Many families are struggling to meet their basic living needs.

According to reports from international organizations, a substantial portion of Afghanistan’s population remains dependent on humanitarian assistance, and the impacts of the economic crisis continue to affect daily life.

Meanwhile, a number of observers and critics emphasize the need for greater focus on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment-generation projects, arguing that proper prioritization of resources is particularly important under the current circumstances.

The Taliban have so far not issued any official response to the criticism regarding public spending priorities or the funding source of this project.
