Local sources in Ghor Province say that Abdullah Rahimi, a well-known commander affiliated with Ibrahim Malekzada, was killed in an armed attack in the province. According to the sources, the incident took place on Saturday evening, 20 Saratan, near his residence.
The sources said that Rahimi, who served as a member of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) in Ghor during the previous government, was targeted by armed attackers while he was inside a mosque near his home and was killed in the assault.
Local sources also claim that the attackers carried out the attack while wearing Taliban uniforms and fled the scene after the shooting. This claim has not been independently verified.
As of the publication of this report, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and Taliban officials have not commented on the incident.
The incident comes as local sources report that it is the third killing of a commander linked to Ibrahim Malekzada in Ghor Province within less than a month. The series of attacks has raised concerns over an increase in targeted killings and the deteriorating security situation in the province.
Some residents of Ghor have also expressed concern over the repeated attacks, accusing the Taliban of failing to ensure security. They say that despite the Taliban’s control over weapons and armed forces, unknown gunmen have repeatedly carried out targeted attacks, while no clear results from investigations or efforts to identify the perpetrators have been made public.
The residents say that the continuation of such incidents has increased fear and mistrust among the population, and they are calling for the perpetrators to be identified and brought to justice.
Since returning to power, the Taliban have repeatedly claimed that they have established nationwide security in Afghanistan. However, the continuation of targeted killings in several provinces, including Ghor, has raised questions about the security situation, the investigation of such cases, and the accountability of responsible authorities.
