Local sources report that intermittent clashes between the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) and Taliban forces are continuing in the Daraim and Zibak districts of Badakhshan province.
According to sources, fighting has intensified over the past two days, prompting the Taliban to deploy reinforcements to the Daraim, Zibak, and Yaftal-e Sufla districts.
Dawood Naji, head of the political committee of the Freedom Front, stated that fighting remains ongoing in various areas of Zibak district, with AFF forces engaged in continuous combat for up to 15 hours. He claimed that more than 20 Taliban fighters were killed and 30 others wounded in these engagements.
Naji rejected Taliban allegations of foreign backing for the Freedom Front, emphasizing that their struggle is driven by the Afghan people's pursuit of freedom and self-determination.
Meanwhile, the Taliban's 219th Omar Thalith Division confirmed the death of five of its fighters in Zibak, while the Freedom Front acknowledged the loss of one soldier.
Military analyst Mohammad Radmanish noted that the escalation of insecurity in Badakhshan stems from the deployment of non-local Taliban forces, active opposition groups, and broader political tensions across northern provinces.
Over the past week, clashes between Taliban forces and armed opposition groups have been reported in at least three districts of Badakhshan. Last week, the Sepahian-e Mihan Front launched an attack on the district center of Yaftal-e Sufla, briefly taking control of several key government facilities.
