Summary

Mizan News Agency, affiliated with Iran’s judiciary, announced that Mojtaba Kian has been executed on charges of “intelligence activities” for Israel and the United States.

According to the judiciary, Mojtaba Kian provided information related to Iran’s defense industry units to the opposing side during the recent war. Judicial officials said he had sent coordinates and information about centers producing parts linked to the defense industry to “hostile networks.”

The judiciary stated that part of the case evidence was based on the defendant’s “confessions” during interrogations and court proceedings. Mizan News Agency also emphasized that these confessions played a role in the issuance of the death sentence.

Meanwhile, human rights organizations have once again expressed concern over judicial procedures in security-related cases in Iran. These organizations have criticized the possibility of forced confessions and the lack of fair trials.

Mojtaba Kian had been arrested in Iran’s Alborz Province, where his case was also processed. According to Mizan, less than 50 days passed between his arrest and execution.

Since the beginning of the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, the judiciary of the Islamic Republic has executed around 30 people on various charges.

The United Nations Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur had previously stated that executions in Iran have increased significantly over the past year, and that this trend has intensified further since the start of the recent conflict.
