Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, Iran’s Minister of Agriculture, arrived in Kabul on Wednesday, 21 Asad, at the head of a delegation. The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul announced in a post on the social media platform X that the visit was aimed at Nouri Ghezeljeh’s meetings with Taliban officials and a visit to an agriculture and livestock exhibition.
Previously, in Sawr 1404, Nouri Ghezeljeh had met with the Taliban’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture in Tehran, where he expressed Iran’s readiness to provide technical and engineering services to Afghanistan’s agricultural sector and facilitate the transfer of modern technologies. During that meeting, he emphasized Iran’s existing capacity for cooperation in training and technical fields.
The Iranian agriculture minister also pointed to Iran’s infrastructure and educational institutions and proposed training Afghan specialists. He further suggested establishing a joint committee in Kabul to ensure more coordinated follow-up on agricultural cooperation between the two countries and to address issues related to the sector.
Nouri Ghezeljeh also emphasized Tehran’s interest in participating in development projects in Afghanistan. He said that optimizing cropping patterns, expanding technical cooperation, and developing long-term agreements could be among the areas pursued within the framework of bilateral cooperation.
From this perspective, the objective of such cooperation could be to strengthen the capacity of Afghanistan’s agricultural sector and improve the livelihoods of Afghan farmers. The Iranian agriculture minister’s latest visit to Kabul comes as agricultural and development cooperation continues to be identified as an area of focus in relations between Tehran and Kabul.
