Israeli media outlets on Monday, May 25, published reports about concerns among Israeli officials regarding a possible agreement between the United States and Iran, saying that Israel’s interests have not been fully taken into account in the course of the negotiations between the two sides.
The newspaper Haaretz reported that Israeli defense officials have urged the country’s political leaders to influence the course of the talks and the contents of any potential agreement in order to prevent clauses that could affect the continuation of the conflict in Lebanon.
Quoting Israeli military sources, the newspaper wrote that security officials are also concerned that a possible agreement between Washington and Tehran could lead to understandings regarding the Gaza Strip that do not align with Israel’s security views and positions.
Meanwhile, Channel 14, Israel’s right-wing television network, focused on what it described as “mysterious negotiations” between the United States and Iran, saying that messages exchanged between the two sides have raised questions about Tehran’s real intentions.
The network reported that some Israeli analysts believe Iran may be trying to buy more time under the shadow of ongoing economic pressure and sanctions, rather than offering genuine concessions.
The Israeli media reports come as no official or clear details have yet been released about the course of the possible negotiations between the United States and Iran, while officials from both sides have commented only limitedly on the talks.
