Netanyahu Travels to Washington for Talks with Trump on Iran.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that he departed for Washington on Monday morning, July 27, to meet and hold talks with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Netanyahu stated that during his meeting with Trump, he will discuss "agenda items," including the situation regarding Iran. The Israeli Prime Minister's office also announced that the meeting will take place on Tuesday at the White House.
According to the Israeli Prime Minister's office, following his meeting with Trump, Netanyahu will attend the funeral service of Senator Lindsey Graham, whom he had previously described as a "great friend of Israel."
Speaking at an Israeli cabinet meeting yesterday about his trip to the United States, Netanyahu noted that he would consult with Donald Trump on all pressing issues, including the situation in Iran.
This trip comes at a time when tensions between the United States and Iran have de-escalated in recent days. The media outlet Axios previously quoted informed sources as reporting that Brad Cooper, Commander of U.S. Central Command, recommended to the Trump administration that bombing operations around the Strait of Hormuz be halted, as they had reached their maximum level of effectiveness.
Concurrently, the New York Post reported on July 25, citing an informed military source and several experts, that U.S. Special Operations Forces are prepared, upon receiving orders, to carry out an operation aimed at removing enriched uranium from Iranian nuclear facilities an operation described as one of the most complex military undertakings.
On the other hand, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stated on Monday that Iran will not allow the United States to dictate the timing of war and peace. He also announced that the implementation of the understanding with the U.S. has been suspended, and there are currently no talks taking place between the two sides.
Baghaei further rejected claims that the Islamic Republic had requested negotiations with the United States, stating that while mediators are conveying messages from Washington, no direct negotiations are currently underway between the two countries.
