Summary

A team of Kazakh doctors has returned home after completing its humanitarian medical mission in Kabul. Based on his observations during the visit, a senior member of the delegation described Afghanistan as being in a “state of war.”

Serik Balgazarov, Deputy Director of Kazakhstan’s National Scientific Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics, who accompanied the medical team to Kabul, said the mission aimed to provide scientific and clinical medical services to the Afghan people. He added that all of the surgeries performed during the visit were highly complex, a situation he said was linked to the country’s ongoing conflict.

Speaking in a televised interview, Balgazarov said Afghanistan remains in a state of war and that many young Afghans continue to suffer from injuries caused by landmine explosions.

Commenting on the motivation behind the mission, he said: “Doctors around the world are no different from one another. Regardless of religion or personal beliefs, we work together with the shared goal of helping people.”

The medical delegation comprised leading Kazakh specialists in surgery, pathology, cardiovascular medicine, pediatrics, and urology. During their stay in Afghanistan, the team performed complex surgical procedures, provided specialist consultations, shared medical expertise with Afghan doctors, and participated in joint medical conferences.

As part of the “Kazakhstan Medical Days” program, the delegation also delivered a shipment of humanitarian aid, including medical equipment such as Ilizarov orthopedic devices used to treat complex fractures.

The medical team returned to Kazakhstan on Sunday, June 28, after completing its mission in Afghanistan, where it was welcomed upon arrival at the capital’s international airport.
