Local sources in Badakhshan Province report that an armed attack has been carried out against Taliban forces in the Dasht-e Ashna area, located along the banks of the Kokcha River.
According to these sources, the attackers targeted three Taliban vehicles. Initial reports indicate that 13 Taliban fighters were killed and another 28 were wounded as a result of the incident.
Sources added that the wounded were transferred to nearby medical facilities for treatment. No further details regarding their condition have been released so far.
Based on information provided by local sources, three of the attackers were also killed during the exchange of fire between the two sides. As of the time of publication, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Last week, the Afghanistan Freedom Front announced the launch of a new phase of operations against the Taliban. However, any possible connection between this attack and that announcement has not been independently confirmed.
Local sources also state that security measures in the area have been tightened following the incident, and Taliban forces have launched search and investigation operations.
Taliban authorities in Badakhshan had not issued any official statement regarding the incident by the time this report was published.
