Mawlawi Abdulhamid, the Sunni Friday prayer leader of Zahedan in Iran, has said that linking Iran and the United States’ national interests to issues such as Israel and Lebanon is not a sound policy, and that both countries should resolve their bilateral disputes through dialogue and establish normal diplomatic relations.
In his Friday sermon, he emphasized that he welcomes negotiations between Iran and the United States, adding that relations between the two countries should be kept separate from other regional issues.
According to a statement from the office of the Sunni Friday prayer leader of Zahedan, Mawlawi Abdulhamid said that if Tehran and Washington resolve their problems and normalize diplomatic relations, issues related to Israel, Lebanon, and Palestine could also be pursued and addressed more easily through diplomacy.
He stressed that in all negotiations between Iran and the United States, Iran’s national interests and the improvement of people’s living conditions must be prioritized.
Mawlawi Abdulhamid also stated that slogans of “death to” against other countries and nations are inappropriate, and in his view, such 47-year-old slogans should not continue, as circumstances have changed.
He further called for the release of political prisoners, an end to pressure, and respect for the rights and freedoms of ethnic and religious groups in Iran, urging Iranian authorities to safeguard the rights of all citizens in accordance with Islamic principles, international law, and the country’s constitution.
