Taliban Minister of Higher Education Neda Mohammad Nadeem has asked Turkey’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, Sadin Elidiz, to send Turkish lecturers to teach at Afghan universities and specialist doctors to provide practical training in medical fields.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education stated that, during a meeting with the Turkish ambassador, Nadeem also requested the reconstruction of two old buildings belonging to the Aliabad Teaching Hospital affiliated with Kabul University of Medical Sciences, as well as cooperation in equipping teaching hospitals.
According to the ministry, Turkish Ambassador Sadin Elidiz expressed his country’s readiness to expand scientific cooperation and said that Turkish universities could establish academic relations and sign cooperation agreements with Afghan universities.
The request comes at a time when, following the Taliban’s return to power, a number of Afghan university lecturers have left the country due to economic difficulties, limited employment opportunities, and security concerns. The shortage of qualified academic professionals in the higher education sector has become a growing concern.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education had previously called on various countries to send lecturers and specialists to Afghan universities to assist in teaching and practical training programs.
