The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has submitted an official protest letter to the Taliban government’s chargé d’affaires in Islamabad, following an attack on a police security post in Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Islamabad claims that the attack was planned by armed groups reportedly based in Afghanistan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan stated that, based on investigations, intelligence information, and technical evidence, it appears that the plot for this attack originated from Afghan territory.
The ministry emphasized that attacks against Pakistan from Afghan soil are a matter of serious concern, and Islamabad has the right to take necessary measures to protect its security forces and citizens.
The statement also noted that United Nations reports and some international organizations have mentioned the presence and relative activity of various armed groups in Afghanistan.
Pakistan has once again urged the Taliban to take “clear, practical, and verifiable” steps against these groups. Islamabad said that despite several rounds of talks and mediation efforts by regional countries, no significant change has yet occurred.
Pakistan has warned that if the situation continues, it will take decisive measures to safeguard its national interests.
On the other hand, the Taliban have not yet issued an official response to these recent statements, although they have previously insisted that Afghan territory is not used against any country and have rejected such claims.
Relations between the two countries have remained tense for months, despite several rounds of negotiations held in Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and China, with no significant results achieved so far.
