Residents of Yaftal-e Payin district in Badakhshan province held a protest on Saturday against what they described as “oppression and mistreatment” by the Taliban. According to local residents, the demonstration began following an incident at the Yaftal market.
Residents said Taliban forces conducted a physical search of a woman at the market. Protesters identified the incident as the main trigger for the demonstration and expressed their anger over the action.
Reports indicate that, during the incident, Taliban forces opened fire in an attempt to disperse the protesters. As of the time of publication, no information had been released regarding the possible number of people injured or detained.
The Taliban have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident or the allegations made by residents of Yaftal-e Payin district.
