Faridun Samim, the spokesperson for the Taliban-appointed governor of Nuristan province, has stated that severe floods on Monday destroyed approximately 80 residential houses in various areas of Barg-e Matal district in eastern Nuristan.
According to him, three children have gone missing in the floods, and a number of livestock have also been killed. He added that efforts are underway to conduct a detailed assessment of the damage and to locate the missing children.
No further details regarding human casualties have been released so far. However, local officials say that the risk of further flooding remains due to recent rainfall and have urged residents to avoid approaching rivers and flood-affected areas.
