Summary

Reports indicate that Masoud Pezeshkian has sent an official letter to the office of Mojtaba Khamenei, requesting to step down from his position.

According to these reports, Pezeshkian expressed concern in his letter about the way the country is being governed and criticized the current decision-making process, claiming that key areas of governance and management have moved outside official channels.

Informed sources said that the letter referred to the growing role and influence of certain factions affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) within the governing structure. The Iranian president reportedly warned about the diminishing role of formal institutions in major decision-making processes.

According to the reports, Pezeshkian emphasized that the government has little effective influence over many of the country’s important and strategic decisions. He reportedly stated that this situation has created serious obstacles to carrying out his legal and administrative responsibilities.

So far, Iranian officials have not commented on these reports, and it remains unclear whether the president’s request to resign will be accepted.

These reports emerge amid previous claims of disagreements between the government and certain military and security institutions in Iran. Various sources have spoken of limitations placed on the government’s authority in some executive and political matters.

Reports had also suggested that Pezeshkian’s administration has faced challenges in advancing some of its political, diplomatic, and administrative agendas, and in certain cases has been unable to implement the changes it sought.

In the month of Hamal (March–April) of the current year, reports also surfaced regarding disagreements between Pezeshkian and Ahmad Vahidi. According to those reports, the management of the war and its economic and livelihood consequences were among the main points of contention.

Informed sources have further claimed that the Iranian president has expressed dissatisfaction with what he describes as a “political and executive deadlock,” resulting from the reduction of the government’s authority.

According to these reports, some key responsibilities and appointments are currently being managed directly by military and security institutions. Sources say this has become one of the main factors contributing to growing tensions within Iran’s power structure.
