Abdullah Khunjani, head of the Resistance Front’s political office, says Hasib Panjshiri, a commander of the group who was killed in a Taliban ambush in the northern Salang area, had not left Afghanistan at any point over the past five years.
Khunjani said on Friday that during this period, Hasib Panjshiri traveled through various areas on both sides of the Hindu Kush mountains. According to him, Panjshiri sometimes used mountain routes for quicker movement and, at other times, traveled along main roads.
Khunjani added that Hasib Panjshiri regularly shared images from the mountainous areas of the Hindu Kush. According to the Resistance Front spokesperson, the images demonstrated that he remained inside Afghanistan.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has also confirmed that Hasib Panjshiri, known as “Hasib Qoway-e-Markaz,” was killed while traveling through the northern Salang route.
