Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the country is ready to help remove enriched uranium from Iran, but that the United States has not accepted a proposal that has been on the table for months. The U.S. president said yesterday regarding Iran’s enriched uranium that he does not agree with transferring it to Russia or China.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also said that Russia is urging the United States and the Islamic Republic not to return to armed conflict and to continue negotiations.
The issue of the fate of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles especially highly enriched uranium has in recent days and weeks become one of the main points of disagreement in negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
The United States and some Western countries want Iran to remove part of its highly enriched uranium stockpile from the country or place it under international supervision. Tehran, however, has approached the matter cautiously and links it to political and security guarantees.
The Kremlin, which possesses the world’s largest stockpile of nuclear weapons, has previously said that, in order to help achieve a peace agreement, it is prepared to accept Iran’s enriched uranium.
Some media outlets have also reported that China may be willing to receive these materials.
On Monday, Trump wrote in a post on the social media platform “Truth Social” that Iran’s enriched uranium would either be destroyed in the United States, inside the Islamic Republic itself, or in “another acceptable location.”
