Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, attended a ceremony in Islamabad held at the Embassy of the United States on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, and described U.S.–Pakistan relations as “special and historic.”
In his address, Sharif stated that during last year’s tensions between India and Pakistan, U.S. President Donald Trump intervened in a timely and decisive manner, which resulted in the cessation of hostilities between the two nuclear-armed countries and the establishment of a ceasefire. He added that Pakistan would remain grateful for this action by President Trump and would remember him as a supporter and advocate of peace.
The Prime Minister further noted that Islamabad and Washington have maintained close cooperation over the past nearly eight decades in the fields of security, economy, education, and energy, and that both countries continue to work together in pursuit of shared interests.
The ceremony was hosted by the U.S. Embassy to mark the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States and was attended by senior Pakistani government officials, diplomats, and other guests.
