Summary

In the Swat region of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, representatives of various political parties, in a joint jirga, have expressed serious concern over the deteriorating security situation and the re-emergence of armed groups.

The statement issued after the meeting says that participants claimed they possess credible and verified information regarding the presence of armed individuals in the mountainous areas. According to them, this situation poses a serious threat to the lives of local residents.

During the jirga, the issue of security threats against the family of local activist Mumtaz Ali Khan was also raised, with reports indicating that his family is facing severe pressure and potential danger.

The recent attack on the family of a prominent transport sector figure, Afzal Gojar, was also highlighted, in which, according to reports, his son, nephew, and security guard were killed.

Participants of the jirga also criticized certain security institutions, stating that a weak response and negligence in addressing the situation have allowed armed groups to once again expand their activities, placing the lives of local people at serious risk.
