Radio Hurriyat, a media outlet close to the Taliban, claimed that the group’s forces carried out an airstrike on Monday targeting positions of ISIS and what it described as “armed opposition groups” in the Chitral area of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The outlet claimed that these locations were being used to plan and coordinate attacks against the Taliban. However, no official source or independent body has so far confirmed the reported strike or provided details regarding the stated targets.
Pakistani security sources, speaking to Afghanistan International, said that no such attack had taken place and that the claims were inaccurate.
This marks the second time that Taliban-affiliated media outlets have reported that the group conducted an air operation inside Pakistani territory. Previously, Pakistan had claimed that the Taliban used several basic drones to carry out attacks on areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; however, according to Pakistani officials, the drones were intercepted and destroyed before reaching their targets.
The Taliban has repeatedly accused Pakistan of supporting ISIS. The group has also claimed in recent weeks that its armed opponents, including resistance fronts, are operating from Pakistani territory and carrying out coordinated attacks against Taliban positions with Pakistan’s backing. Pakistan has rejected these allegations.
