Summary

In Badakhshan, the Taliban’s Department of Information and Culture says Abdul Wakil Muneeb, commander of the 219 Omar Thalith Corps, has assessed the security situation in the province’s border areas along the frontiers with Tajikistan and China.

In a statement, the Taliban’s Department of Information and Culture said Muneeb visited border battalions in Broghil and other border areas of Badakhshan adjoining Tajikistan and China, where he closely inspected the security preparedness of Taliban forces.

Nourullah Nazari, the media official of the 219 Omar Thalith Corps, said that the difficulties and challenges facing the border forces were also assessed during the visit. Discussions focused on improving the security situation, addressing existing problems, and strengthening coordination among military forces.

The Taliban military official’s visit to Badakhshan’s border areas comes amid reports in recent weeks of attacks by armed opposition groups on Taliban positions and forces in the province’s Zebak, Yaftal, Kishm, and Yamgan districts.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front, National Resistance Front, and United Front have also claimed that they killed around 30 Taliban members in various attacks over the past week. The Taliban, however, have so far released no details regarding the attacks or the reported casualties.
