Following an attack by a newly established armed group known as “Sepahiyan-e Mihan” in Badakhshan, the Taliban administration has sent its Chief of Army Staff, Fasiuddin Fetrat, to the province to oversee security operations.
Speaking in Badakhshan on Friday, Fetrat said the Taliban had received prior information about the planned attack on the Yaftal-e Payin district headquarters. He said he traveled from Kabul to Badakhshan as a result and ordered security forces to launch operations.
Fetrat claimed that the armed attack had been thwarted and that the attackers had failed to achieve their objectives. He described the armed group as “corrupt elements” and “insurgents,” claiming that many of them had been arrested while the remaining members were being pursued.
The Taliban’s Chief of Army Staff also stressed that the security situation in Badakhshan remains under Taliban control and that they would respond firmly to any armed actions.
Meanwhile, the newly formed Sepahiyan-e Mihan Front has claimed responsibility for the attack on Yaftal-e Payin district, alleging that its forces took control of the district headquarters for several hours on Friday morning. The claim has not been independently verified by reliable sources.
