Summary

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Mohammad Nawaz, Pakistan’s national cricket team spinner and all-rounder, from all cricket-related activities for three months for violating anti-doping regulations.

In a statement released on Friday (26 Saratan), the ICC said that Mohammad Nawaz’s doping test returned positive during the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. According to the council, the banned substance Carboxy-THC was detected in his system following Pakistan’s match against the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 7, 2026.

According to the statement, 32-year-old Mohammad Nawaz admitted to the violation and said that he had used the substance outside of competition and that its use was unrelated to his sporting activities.

The ICC said that his period of ineligibility began on May 1, 2026. If Mohammad Nawaz completes a special treatment and education program related to prohibited substances, approved by the International Cricket Council, his three-month suspension may be reduced to one month.

Under the ICC’s decision, Mohammad Nawaz’s provisional suspension, which lasted more than two and a half months, has now ended. However, under international regulations, all of his matches, records, and achievements from February 7 to May 1 of this year have been annulled.

The International Cricket Council and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) state that doping refers to an athlete’s use of prohibited drugs, substances, or methods to enhance sporting performance, or any violation of anti-doping rules.
