Summary

Wall Street witnessed a remarkable event on Friday. With the debut of SpaceX shares on the Nasdaq Stock Market, attention quickly turned to Elon Musk’s rapidly growing fortune, intensifying speculation that he could become the world’s first trillionaire.

According to reports, SpaceX offered 555.6 million shares at a price of $135 per share. The company was valued at approximately $1.77 trillion at the time of its market debut.

Prior to the public offering, Elon Musk was already the world’s wealthiest individual, with an estimated net worth of nearly $696 billion. He owns roughly 42% of SpaceX, a stake valued between $743 billion and $866.5 billion.

If this valuation is sustained, Musk’s total net worth could surpass the $1 trillion mark a milestone widely regarded as unprecedented in modern economic history.

To put this figure into perspective, Oxfam has noted that a person spending $1 million every day would need more than 2,740 years to spend $1 trillion.

At present, Musk’s wealth is estimated to be more than three times that of Larry Page, the Google co-founder and the world’s second-richest person.

As for whether Elon Musk is the wealthiest person in history, direct comparisons with historical figures remain difficult. The value of wealth across different eras varies significantly due to inflation, economic conditions, and differences in the structure of the global economy. Nevertheless, in terms of nominal wealth within the modern economy, Musk stands on the verge of achieving one of the highest levels of personal wealth ever recorded in contemporary history.
