On the occasion of World Refugee Day, the European Union reaffirmed its commitment to supporting refugees, returnees, internally displaced persons, and host communities in Afghanistan, stating that it will continue, in coordination with international organizations, to support livelihood programs and sustainable solutions. The EU said its main objective is to help Afghan citizens rebuild their lives with dignity and respect for human rights.
In a statement, the EU Delegation in Afghanistan announced that, in close cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), humanitarian assistance and support programs for the people of Afghanistan will continue. The statement emphasized that addressing both immediate and long-term needs remains a priority.
The European Union also highlighted the importance of empowering Afghan women and girls, identifying it as one of the core pillars of its support programs. According to the statement, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), ACTED, and the ACF Foundation, initiatives are being implemented in Badakhshan province to enhance skills and create economic opportunities.
The EU further noted that providing educational, vocational, and economic opportunities for women and girls is part of broader efforts to meet essential needs and strengthen the resilience of local communities. It also stressed that supporting women and girls, alongside addressing the situation of refugees and returnees, remains a key priority of EU assistance in Afghanistan.
