The first match of the five-match One Day International (ODI) series between Afghanistan and Ireland, which was scheduled to be played, Wednesday (5 August), has been abandoned due to persistent rain.
The match was being held in Bready, Ireland, but play could not begin due to rainfall from early morning. After several hours of waiting and assessing the condition of the ground, the officials decided to call off the match.
The second ODI between the two teams is scheduled to take place on Friday (7 August) at the same venue.
Afghanistan has sent its national team to Ireland for international fixtures after nearly four years, with Ireland hosting the five-match series.
Ahead of the start of the series, Afghanistan national cricket team captain Rahmat Shah expressed hope that the Afghan players would perform well and secure victory in the series.
