
The flooding in Kandahar and Helmand has destroyed nearly a thousand homes.
As a result of this event, at least two people have died, and thousands of hectares of agricultural land have been destroyed. Additionally, thousands of hectares of farmland and orchards have been ruined, 33 livestock have perished, 9 canals have been destroyed, and 123 solar panels have been broken.
Najibullah Rahmani, the spokesperson for the Disaster Management Department in Kandahar, said: “As a result of heavy rainfall and last night’s floods, around 8,500 families in the city and districts have been affected.” Mohammad Hanif Haqmal, the spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock in Kandahar, stated: “The most damage has occurred in six districts, and approximately 33,000 jeribs of farmland have been destroyed.” These floods have also caused financial losses to the people of Zabul and Arghandab.
Flood victims are asking authorities for help.
Abdulmanan, one of the affected people, said: “The floodwater took all my belongings, and I only saved a few items. I ask the government to help us.”
Mohammad, another victim, said: “There is a lot of water in this area, and the rainfall has entered our homes. The houses are old and weak, and the economic situation of the people is poor.” Authorities have stated that emergency aid for the flood victims has begun, and hundreds of people were rescued from the flood-affected areas in Kandahar and Helmand last night.
