The London Marathon is held every year in April and is considered one of the most important track and field events in the world. The race starts in Greenwich Park and, after passing through various parts of the city, finishes in central London.
In addition to its sports aspect, the event is also one of the largest charity programs in the world. Thousands of volunteers assist runners along the route, creating a wide atmosphere of cooperation and social solidarity.
Last year, the London Marathon raised £87.3 million for charitable institutions, making it the largest single-day charity fundraising event in the world.
This year’s race also featured some significant events. Sebastian Sawe from Kenya won the men’s race with a record-breaking time of 1:59:30, becoming the first athlete to break the two-hour barrier in this competition.
Since its inception in 1981, the London Marathon has gained immense popularity due to its scenic route and widespread support from local people. Every year, more than 16,000 volunteers provide services to participants at various stations along the route.
