The twelfth meeting of the Pakistan–Russia Joint Working Group on Counterterrorism was held on June 23, 2026, in Islamabad, during which discussions focused on regional security threats, particularly the situation in Afghanistan.
According to the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, senior officials from both countries participated in the meeting. The Pakistani delegation was led by Ambassador Muhammad Khalid Khan Jamali, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Russian delegation was headed by Dmitry Lyubinsky, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia.
Both sides emphasized the expansion and strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the field of counterterrorism.
Reports indicate that Russia has expressed concern over the increasing activity of ISIS, while the Taliban accuse Pakistan of providing safe havens for ISIS on its territory. Meanwhile, Islamabad in turn accuses the Afghan Taliban of supporting the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other anti-Pakistan armed groups.
Participants of the meeting stressed that regional security threats can only be addressed through joint and coordinated efforts.
