Summary

The spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Enayatullah Alkhozi, has stated that reports suggesting decisions have been made to restrict or shut down the internet are unfounded.

He emphasized that the ministry’s new minister,Mullah Abdul Ahad Fazli, has not held any official discussions with telecommunications companies regarding internet shutdowns or restrictions. According to him, all recent official statements have only been issued from the official stance of the Ministry of Communications.

These remarks come after a few days ago, when some officials from fiber-optic internet companies in Kabul told the media that the new communications minister had instructed the ATRA authority to suspend fiber-optic Wi-Fi services for the general public.

Additionally, sources from Afghan Telecom and some other internet service companies claimed that, based on this directive, the expansion of fiber-optic lines in Kabul has been delayed indefinitely. According to them, Afghan Telecom had also sent an official email to the relevant companies regarding this matter.
